May 18, 2020 – David Kent Consulting (Kent) announces its latest project with Northwest Missouri State University (Northwest). During the six month engagement, Kent will migrate the institution’s Banner ERP system, including all tightly integrated on-premises partner applications, to ORACLE’s Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The Kent cloud team will architect, design, and build the Northwest cloud solution using a process called “Infrastructure as Code” (IaC). By using IaC, the Banner cloud infrastructure will deliver a stable platform with an agility that scales and contracts based on actual workload requirements, thus saving the institution money by elastically adding and subtracting resources on demand. Additionally, the application layer of the Banner system will be containerized and orchestrated in a DevOps model, thereby shortening development cycles and enabling the Northwest technical team to move with speed and accuracy.
With its bold move to cloud computing, Northwest will see an immediate impact on operating expenditures—paying only for resources used. More importantly, the cloud computing infrastructure is inherently adaptable and resilient, which ensures that the institution’s critical and ever-evolving business applications are always available to faculty, staff, and students.
“Northwest’s vision of adopting DevOps and IaC in its cloud strategy are key drivers of its digital transformation,” says Hank Wojteczko, senior cloud architect at Kent. “By using IaC, the institution will be able to rapidly build environments that are “fit-for-purpose”.
With an enrollment of about 7,100 students, Northwest Missouri State University is a coeducational, primarily residential four-year university that offers a broad range of undergraduate and selected graduate programs on its Maryville, Missouri, campus as well as its Northwest-Kansas City location and through Northwest Online.
